Candidates must present:
  • minimum five years of experience in full-cycle accounting;
  • fluent in D/GP or similar accounting systems;
  • excellent skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel;
  • experience in preparing month-end and year-end statements;
  • familiarity with Charity Tax law according to CRA, including regulations for receipted donations, gifts in kind, calculation of administration costs;
  • experience in working independently, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • successful police record check clearance.

Preferred characteristics:
  • current accounting designation;
  • experience with Management Reporter for Dynamics GP;
  • experience with a donor data base/ CRM system;
  • experience in not-for-profit accounting.
The Senior Accountant is responsible to ensure sound financial management of the income and disbursements, investments and assets of MCC Alberta. The Senior Accountant is the chief finance professional and will provide analysis, pro-active advice, and professional guidance as necessary to the Executive Director and other managers. The Senior Accountant is accountable to the Executive Director and works closely with other staff members, and the Board Treasurer. The Senior Accountant will provide immediate supervision to other finance positions.
Occasional evening and weekend work; Occasional long days
Financial Management
• using Dynamics GP, maintain and, as necessary develop and revise, an accounting system that efficiently records MCCA’s income and expenses;
• prepare a monthly Statement of Operations and Department Financial reports for MCC management and board, including budget variance and cash flow forecasts;
• maintain and develop reports in Management Reporter for Dynamics GP for on-going monitoring of financial performance of MCCA and specific projects;
• prepare the year-end working papers and financial statements for the external auditors.

Policies and Procedures
• ensure MCCA’s compliance with the Shared Policy Framework (Finance);
• collaborate with MCC Canada and the other provincial MCCs in planning and populating shared budgets and statements;
• analyze needs, recommend and develop policies for sound financial management and reporting;
• ensure compliance with CRA charity law regulations.
